Do you enjoy cooking and traditional foods?

The Mennonite Heritage Center, Harleysville, and the Goschenhoppen Historians, Green Lane, are co-sponsoring a special one-day Hearth Cooking Workshop on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. This hands-on class will be led by food historians Melanie Baker and Joanne Kintner in the beautiful historic kitchen of the 18th century Antes House, Upper Frederick Township.

Learn how early Pennsylvania German women skillfully used hot coals from the fireplace to make delicious “chicken on a string” and other culinary delights. The instructors will discuss the best types of wood for hearth cooking, the cooking utensils needed for cooking over wood coals and historic Pennsylvania German recipes. Participants will enjoy a delicious late lunch created from the day’s instructions.

The workshop fee is $70 ($65 for MHC and Goschenhoppen Historian members).  Preregistration is necessary as the workshop size is limited to ten participants.
